Homeschool vs Traditional Public School
Dear Parents of the Next Generation,
I hope 2020 will bring you many joys and peace as we venture off into this marvelous new year. As many schools and homeschool parents are wrapping their semester to a close within these last few days for winter break, I know many of you are still experiencing difficulty with coming to a conclusion on whether or not you should have your brilliant mind(s) return again for spring semester 2020. I pray that my message to you below can help calm the quiet storm in your heads. so that you may make that final decision with both clarity and peace in both mind & spirit.
The argument of homeschool vs traditional school has been one of mankind’s many great debates since the beginning of time- yes, it indeed ranks up there with the chicken v. egg (lol). However, truth be told, one is not considered any better than the other. It’s rather more about the application of either in regards to that particular family’s situation. (Please note: I say this TRUTHFULLY from both perspectives as a parent/educator within the homeschool community & with my experience inside public schools.)
So if you are struggling with making the right decision this year, please don’t look for Google to prescribe you the correct answer nor ask your SOI (Sphere of Influence- family and friends). However, create the ever cliché, yet powerfully insightful Pros vs Cons List for both and see which one would benefit your student’s needs, goals, and/or desires amongst the following aspects:
Social development
Academic success
Career goals & college prep development (for high schoolers)
Emotional/mental behaviors (such as self esteem & learning differences)
Family dynamic- logistics/routine (day-to-day operation) and interactions (relationship with one another)
If the pros of one outweigh in one more than the other, consider the cons as risks and sacrifices worth taking on this upcoming year and begin to make arrangements on how you’ll overcome them. Trust me, as a parent you’ll be thankful that you to took the time to fully take all these items into consideration before you put your child/children into the whirlwind of a mess with school withdrawal and re-enrollments. The list won’t lie to you in regards to you doing what’s best for your kiddos-both big and small. Just be ready to be honest with what the current situation is and to what you’d be willing to commit to doing when you make it.
Now say it with me… You Got This!
Again, but this time louder…
Now with a smile on your face! (CHEESE) ^.^
Alright…. now take a deep breath. Go on and grab that pencil and paper and get to listing….
Trust me when I tell you, you won’t regret it!
And as always…..
Stay Blessed & Good Luck,
S
